Mid September is the start of the Vendemmia in Tuscany – the grape harvest.  We visited the family run Greo Vineyard, just outside Lucca in September 2017 just as they were getting ready – bottles being washed and boxes stacked.

Greo is a real family run affair with Giancarlo and his wife – his is the portrait on the bottles and she was overseeing the bottling and corking processes. He also seemed an expert in the tasting process! Many of the old chestnut barrels have been used for over 130 years but sadly, after 4 generations he is likely to be the last winemaker in the family business. Still business seems to be booming with latest exports to California.

In the meantime the grapes on our pergola have been ripening well, but won’t make the grade for Giancarlo I’m sure.
