Independent food businesses are to be celebrated when you find them – good to see some growth this side of the city so hunt them out and make a change from buying from big chains now and then.
On The Bread Line
A lovely small bakery run on a farm just on the edge of Mere Green – delicious breads and cakes, baked by a young man trained at UCB/College of Food.
Directions: Pass Mitchells Art centre on the right (Weeford Rd, Sutton Coldfield B75 6NA), continue on and pass the Chase Farm Shop on the right (see below). Cross over the main road and then take the second exit at the roundabout on Harvest Fields then first left down Duttons Lane. Follow this narrow old lane to the end and the Bakery is opposite you. From May open Wednesday – Sunday 9-2pm ( or until the bread runs out!) ( April open Mon – Sat 8.30 – 12)
Chase Farm Shop
Then take a trip back to The Chase Farm Shop – Weeford Road, Roughley, Sutton Coldfield B75 5RL
This Farm shop seems to go from strength to strength. Great place for brunch too. Sells a full range of produce but their award winning local meat is worth searching out. You can often see their lovely cattle in the fields. Look for their bacon offcuts too for making Carbonara or Nonna’s sugo……
Bore Street Bakery, Lichfield
Another time try the lovely Bore St Bakery in Lichfield. Again another young baker making fantastic sourdough bread Get there early as it sells out quickly – by 11.30 am. Open Wednesdays – Saturdays 9am
